Downloading Your Resume

Downloading your resume is the final step before sending your application. But first, take a moment to review your content, formatting, and feedback to make sure everything is professional and ready for recruiters.

Once you’re happy with your resume, simply head to the Finish Up & Preview page and choose your preferred file format. Whether you need a PDF for job applications, a DOCX file for future edits, or a copy saved directly to Google Drive, Rezi lets you export your resume in a few clicks.

How to Download Your Resume

Here’s how to download your resume with Rezi:

  • Head to the Finish Up & Preview page to review your completed resume, check your Rezi Score, and use AI Keyword Targeting to optimize your content.
  • Download your resume by choosing from PDF, DOCX, or Google Drive. Keep in mind that PDF is typically the best choice unless an employer requests a different file format.
  • Check and save your file by confirming that the formatting, content, and page length look correct after export, then save it with a clear, professional filename.

Let’s go through the process step-by-step with tips and examples.

1. Head to the Finish Up & Preview page

Once you’ve completed all your sections in the resume builder, head to the Finish Up & Preview page. This is your final review area where you can see exactly how your resume looks before downloading it.

While you’re there, I recommend taking full advantage of the tools available:

  • Review your Rezi Score by selecting Explore My Rezi Score to see a detailed breakdown of feedback and suggestions.
  • Use AI Keyword Targeting to analyze a posting, identify keywords, and weave them into your resume with AI-generated bullet points. This can improve how well your resume aligns with both recruiters and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

2. Download your resume

Once you’re satisfied with your content, formatting, keywords, and score feedback, you’re ready to export your resume.

Rezi offers three download options:

  • PDF: The most common and recommended format for job applications. PDFs maintain your formatting across devices and remain ATS-friendly.
  • DOCX: A great option if you’d like to make additional edits in Microsoft Word.
  • Google Drive: Ideal if you prefer working in Google Docs or want an easy way to collaborate and make future updates.

If you choose Google Drive, a sign-in window will appear. Log in to your Google account and grant Rezi permission to access your Drive. Rezi will then save a version of your resume directly to your Google Drive.

Not sure which option to choose?

If an employer asks for a specific resume file format, always follow those instructions. If they don’t specify a format, choose PDF. It’s your safest bet for a professional presentation and ensures your resume format appears exactly as intended when recruiters open it.

3. Check and save your file

After downloading your resume, open the file and make sure everything transferred correctly.

Here are a few final checks:

  • The formatting looks organized and professional.
  • All content appears as expected.
  • The resume fits within your intended page length.
  • No sections, bullet points, or spacing have shifted during export.

When saving your file, use a clear and professional filename. Recruiters often review a ton of applications, so a filename that gets to the point helps them quickly identify your resume.

For example:

  • FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf
  • FirstName_LastName_Marketing_Manager_Resume.pdf

Including the job title can be especially helpful when you’re applying for a specific role. It shows that you’ve tailored your application and makes it easier for hiring teams to organize candidate documents.

Summary

Here’s an overview of how to download a resume with Rezi:

  • Go to the Finish Up & Preview page once you’ve completed your resume. This is your final review area where you can check content, formatting, and overall presentation.

FAQ

Should you download your resume as a PDF or DOCX file?

In most cases, PDF is the better choice. It preserves your formatting across different devices and operating systems and is ATS-friendly. However, if you expect to make additional edits in Microsoft Word or an employer specifically requests a Word document, downloading your resume as a DOCX file makes more sense.

Where can you find your downloaded resume after exporting it?

Your resume will typically save to your device’s default Downloads folder unless you’ve selected a different location. If you exported your resume to Google Drive, you’ll find it in your Drive after granting Rezi access. If you can’t locate your file, check your browser’s download history or search your device for the filename.

Can you edit your resume after downloading it?

Yes, but the editing experience depends on the file type you choose. DOCX files are designed for editing and can be opened in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. PDF files are better for sharing and preserving formatting, but they aren’t as easy to edit. You can also return to the AI Resume Builder to edit and download as many times as you want with a paid subscription.

Can you download multiple versions of your resume?

Yes, Rezi lets you tailor your resume to specific opportunities and download updated versions. To download unlimited resumes, you can pay $29 a month for the Pro account or a one-off payment of $149 for the Lifetime subscription.

What should you check before submitting your downloaded resume?

Before sending your resume to employers, open the downloaded file and review it to confirm that the formatting looks organized, all sections appear correctly, and no spacing or bullet points have shifted during export. You should also verify that the file name is clear and professional, and that you’ve downloaded the correct version for the position you’re applying for.
