Rezi and ChatGPT-5 can write resumes, but Rezi can automatically format it for resume scanners. Plus, Rezi AI Agent works almost the same as ChatGPT.

If you’re comparing Rezi and ChatGPT-5 to figure out which AI tool will help you build a professional resume, the biggest difference comes down to focus. ChatGPT-5 is a general-purpose AI with endless flexibility. However, Rezi is built specifically for resumes, cover letters, and job applications using different language models. Rezi is complete with ATS-friendly formatting, optimization tools, and a guided writing process.
I’ll be upfront: this comparison is going to be somewhat biased.
I work with Rezi, so I’ve seen firsthand how it’s helped job seekers create resumes that actually get past ATS filters and land interviews.
But I’ve also used ChatGPT extensively for resumes and career advice… and plenty more, like trying to get personal life advice because honestly, who hasn’t? (And if you haven’t, I’d actually suggest giving it a go.)
Now with ChatGPT-5, it’s a good time to take a fresh look at how the two compare.

Overview of Rezi and ChatGPT for Building Resumes
Rezi and ChatGPT are both AI platforms that job seekers turn to for building resumes, but they’re used in different ways.
Rezi was originally built with one purpose in mind: to solve the resume problem. Every tool in our platform is designed around that goal. It’s an AI resume builder made specifically to create resumes that can pass applicant tracking systems (ATS), the software many employers use to filter candidates before a human even sees their application.
With Rezi, you can generate personalized content and automatically format it into a professional, ATS-friendly resume.
Over time, however, Rezi has expanded beyond a builder, now including our own AI Agent that works much like ChatGPT, but fully specialized in resumes and career advice.
ChatGPT, on the other hand, is more of a general-purpose AI that can create resume text in virtually any style if you know how to prompt it well. With the right input, it can produce solid resume content.

How Rezi Compares to ChatGPT: Core Features Explained
In short: ChatGPT offers versatility; Rezi offers a complete, guided system to go from a blank page to a ready-to-submit application in minutes.
With ChatGPT, you can create strong resume content if you know how to prompt it, and you have the flexibility to shape it in any style. However, it won’t automatically structure that content into an ATS-friendly format or check your resume against hiring standards without additional tools.
In contrast, Rezi was built for that exact workflow. Its AI Agent gives you the same conversational prompting experience as ChatGPT except every response is specifically for resumes, cover letters, and job search tasks. It can also navigate all Rezi features to help you with managing job applications.

AI Agent
The Rezi AI Agent uses language models specifically for helping you with resume, cover letter, and job search tasks.
You can type in your own prompts, just like you would in ChatGPT, as shown below.

Every output is tuned to follow top resume standards and ATS best practices.
For example, when I asked Rezi AI Agent to improve my existing resume, here’s the response I got:

I then asked Rezi AI Agent to make my resume summary section better. Currently, it’s:
“Marketing professional with extensive experience in project management, social media marketing, and marketing segmentation. I am able to conduct dynamic research for marketing and branding initiatives. My work history includes developing and overseeing projects with focus on quality and efficiency. My skillsets include proficiency in Google Analytics and SEO to drive website traffic and increase brand engagement.”
Here’s the response I got:

In case the image is difficult to read, here’s the revised summary section:
“Results-driven Marketing Professional with 7+ years of expertise in SEO, digital marketing, and project management. Proven track record of increasing organic traffic by 60%, improving search engine rankings, and driving customer acquisition through data-driven strategies. Skilled in leveraging Google Analytics, SEMrush, and marketing automation platforms to optimize campaigns and deliver measurable ROI. Experienced in managing cross-functional teams and multimillion-dollar projects while maintaining brand integrity and exceeding client expectations.”
Even if the numbers aren’t exact, you can use this as a framework—swap in your real results and metrics. That way, your summary highlights concrete career achievements and immediately makes a stronger impact.
In comparison, here’s the response I got when I asked ChatGPT to improve my resume:

It immediately gave me an “improved resume draft.” Here’s ChatGPT’s draft for the new summary section:

The draft reads as follows:
“Results-driven marketing professional with 5+ years of experience in SEO, social media, and digital strategy. Proven track record of driving organic traffic growth, improving search rankings, and leading multimillion-dollar digital projects. Skilled at turning data-driven insights into campaigns that boost engagement, lead generation, and revenue.”
Looking at both outputs, ChatGPT’s draft reads polished and professional, but it can lean more toward general phrasing. However, Rezi is tuned for resumes—it highlights quantifiable achievements, integrates industry keywords, and the revision suggestions can be dropped straight into your resume format.
Also, because Rezi AI Agent is integrated with the rest of Rezi’s platform, you can navigate other Rezi features within the AI agent, such as the job search management feature, as shown below.

With ChatGPT, it’s more of a general-purpose AI that can produce text in any style or tone. For resumes, it can write good sentences as long as the user gives clear prompts. When compared to Rezi, ChatGPT’s main strength is versatility, as users can adapt it for any kind of task or writing, not just career-related content.
However, unlike Rezi, it doesn’t automatically optimize for ATS resume writing and formatting standards, and there are no built-in resume tools.

AI Resume Builder
The AI Resume Builder is our core tool, designed to take you from a blank page to a finished, ATS-ready resume.
You can start by importing an existing resume. Or, begin by selecting your target role and providing background details, such as your career stage and target job description. From there, you’re taken through a step-by-step approach to filling out each section of your resume while automatically formatting everything into a professional template, starting with contact details.

You can make edits without breaking the structure of your resume. The formatting takes care of itself as you write so you can focus entirely on the content. Building your resume is also intuitive since you’re guided through one section at a time without the distraction of other layout elements.
With ChatGPT, the process is entirely prompt-driven. You guide it through each step of creating your resume, and the output is almost always plain text. Still, you could ask ChatGPT to format your resume.

But in my experience, its results aren’t as consistently ATS-optimized as Rezi’s—which you can see in the example below (with another one coming shortly).

ATS Resume Templates
All resume templates from Rezi are clean, minimal, and professional. We built them for ATS compatibility and human readability.
For reference, here’s our standard resume template design:

Our templates also prioritize a content-first approach, since ultimately, employers care most about whether your resume clearly demonstrates the skills and experience needed to do the job well.
Adding visuals can be tempting, but the truth is that graphics, columns, and decorative elements can make it harder for ATS to parse your information. They use up valuable space that should be dedicated for writing about relevant achievements, skills, and projects.
And this isn’t just theory.
In an ATS parsing experiment we ran, we found that resume scanners typically fail to reliably interpret resumes; and one of the best things you can do about this is to make sure you’re using the cleanest resumes possible—which is what our templates enforce.
Feel free to also check out our other types of resume templates:
In comparison, ChatGPT currently offers no built-in templates, so your resume output is typically plain text unless you can manually style it in another program.
You can ask ChatGPT to format a professional resume into a PDF file, but results may vary.
When I asked ChatGPT-5 to turn my content into a professionally formatted resume, here’s what I got:

While the output was usable, there’s still room for improvement in content layout, space optimization, and ATS compatibility.

AI Bullet Point Writer & Editor
Rezi AI Bullet Points can generate resume sentences tailored to your role, experience level, and target job description. By taking these details into account, it can suggest bullet points that highlight your skills, responsibilities, and achievements.

It’s also capable of generating bullet points emphasizing numbers and measurable results. Simply click “Generate bullet with key numbers.”

Once generated, you can tweak them to make sure they accurately represent your background.
If you already have bullet points, you can highlight them and use Rezi’s AI Bullet Point Editor to improve the wording and phrasing. If you have an incomplete sentence, highlight it and the editor will suggest ways to finish it. In both cases, you’ll get up to three suggestions to choose from, or you can generate more.

ChatGPT is capable of writing new resume bullet points and refining existing ones too, as shown below.

That said, ChatGPT doesn’t automatically format or integrate bullet points into your resume. You’d still need to copy them over.
Resume Score and ATS Checker
The Rezi ATS Resume Checker comes with real-time content analysis and a resume score. As you write, it flags issues such as weak verbs, filler words, missing punctuation, or lack of measurable results. It also gives you clear, actionable feedback.

Your Rezi Score is also automatically updated. This rates your resume from 1–100 based on four key areas: content, formatting, optimization, and best practices. A score of 90+ means your resume is good to go, while 50–89 suggests room for improvement. Anything below 50 means you’ll want to make some changes before applying.

ChatGPT can review resume content and give improvement suggestions too. It can spot grammar issues and suggest rewording.
But again, it relies entirely on your prompts and doesn’t automatically check against ATS best practices or update a readiness score as you go. Plus, you’d still need to manually apply those changes to your resume and double-check formatting. You can still get insightful feedback though to improve your resume.

AI Keyword Targeting
Rezi has a resume keyword scanner tool that scans your resume against a specific job description and instantly shows which keywords you’ve included and which are missing.

You can also use it for suggestions on where to place missing keywords. With Rezi AI Keyword Targeting, tailor your resume by making sure you’ve included the right keywords that the company’s ATS is looking for. Use it while creating a new resume or to tailor an existing one in a few minutes.

ChatGPT also works well for identifying missing ATS resume keywords and suggesting where to place them. Simply paste in your resume content and the job description, then ask. Although it may not present the results in the same visual format as Rezi, ChatGPT is still more than capable of getting the job done.

AI Cover Letters
You can use Rezi’s AI cover letter builder to generate a personalized cover letter.
With Rezi AI Cover Letter Generator, you’ll be asked to enter a few key details, such as your job title and company name. From there, it can produce a professionally structured draft aligned with your resume and the role you’re targeting. It pulls in industry-relevant keywords and highlights relevant skills and achievements.

ChatGPT can also write strong cover letters when you provide enough context about your experience and the job description. It’s flexible and capable of producing content that matches your background.

AI Interview Preps
Rezi has an AI interview prep tool that lets you practice realistic, role-specific mock interviews based on your resume and the target role.

It generates questions relevant to your field. You can answer via text or voice, and it’ll provide you with clear feedback. Plus, you'll receive structured evaluations and even sample responses to help you refine your answers.

You can have infinite practice sessions and get feedback across 15+ key parameters. This is helpful for honing confidence and preparing before real interviews.
Similarly, ChatGPT can simulate interview questions if you provide enough context, such as your resume and the job description. You can enter prompts like, “Act as a hiring manager for [job title] at [company]. Ask me 5 common interview questions based on my resume and this job description.”

Then, respond to each question and ask ChatGPT to provide feedback on clarity, relevance, and how well your answers match the role’s requirements.

Job Search Management
You can use Rezi AI Job Search to find real job listings straight from company websites.
Enter your role and location, and browse relevant job openings. Bookmark anything relevant, and use the other tabs such as “Applied” “Interviewing” and “Rejected” to keep on top of all your job applications.

You can also immediately tailor your resume for the particular job posting by clicking “Target Resume.”

Although ChatGPT can’t replicate Rezi’s job search management feature, it can still offer some support. For instance, many job seekers use it to get suggestions for:
- Where to search for job openings based on your target role and industry.
- Outreach messages to recruiters and hiring managers.
- Tailor your resume for specific job openings.
The Best Use Cases for Rezi and ChatGPT for Job Searching
Rezi is best when you want a complete, ATS-friendly application process. From generating tailored content to formatting, keyword optimization, and tracking job openings, it’s ideal for managing the entire job application process.
On the other hand, ChatGPT shines when you need flexibility and creativity. It can also help with researching your target company. And with the right prompts, you can generate resume and cover letter drafts, though you’ll need to handle formatting and ATS checks manually.
It’s not like you couldn’t use both platforms together, but with Rezi AI Agent, you can do almost everything you’d do with ChatGPT for writing a resume — only it’s all within Rezi, with easy access to the rest of Rezi’s resume and job search features.
Summary: Is Rezi Better Than ChatGPT?
I also asked ChatGPT the same question: should job seekers use Rezi or ChatGPT? Here’s the response I got:

If I had to use a single tool, I’d pick Rezi over ChatGPT because it was built specifically for solving the resume and job application problem, so everything it generates is aligned with hiring standards and ATS requirements. You can do it all in one go.
Rezi combines language models with ATS-optimized templates, keyword scanning, and a guided workflow so that you can move from a blank page to a professional, job-ready document in minutes.
ChatGPT, on the other hand, excels in flexibility. It can write in any style, help brainstorm ideas, or even coach you for interviews if you know how to prompt it well. The tradeoff is that it doesn’t handle ATS formatting or structured resume design automatically.
If you’re experimenting or want full creative control, ChatGPT can be a strong option. But if your goal is to create an application that meets hiring standards in minutes and gets through ATS reliably, Rezi provides all the resume writing and formatting tools you need for your job search.
FAQs
Could I use Rezi and ChatGPT together?
Yes—some of our users start with ChatGPT to brainstorm or draft rough content, then switch to Rezi for formatting, structure, tailoring, and final polish. But if you want a faster and more streamlined experience, Rezi can take care of everything from writing to formatting in one place.
Which will help me create a better resume, Rezi or ChatGPT?
You’re more likely to get a better result with Rezi, especially when it comes to resume formatting and ATS compatibility. ChatGPT can help generate content and assist in writing a resume, but it doesn’t specialize in resume best practices. On the other hand, Rezi can handle both your resume content and layout.
What makes Rezi better than ChatGPT for resumes?
Rezi was originally built solely for solving the resume. It takes a structured approach and walks you through each section, formats everything automatically, and optimizes your resume for both ATS and recruiters. ChatGPT is more of a general AI tool. It can help you come up with ideas, but it doesn’t exactly guide you like how Rezi does step-by-step or provide real-time feedback. However, while ChatGPT lets you enter custom prompts, that’s no longer a limitation for Rezi. With the new AI Agent, you can do the same: type in your own prompts and get responses in real time. The difference? Everything Rezi’s AI Agent generates is tailored specifically for resumes and career advice.
What can Rezi do that ChatGPT can’t?
Rezi can:
- Format your resume to be ATS-friendly by default.
- Automatically tailor your content to job descriptions with built-in keyword targeting.
- Provide resume scores and actionable feedback in real time.
Rezi’s user interface also makes the entire process straightforward. You’re guided step-by-step with tools like the AI Agent, bullet point writer or editor, and resume checker. In contrast, ChatGPT may require more manual prompts.
