Home From College Review (and My Personal Thoughts)

Learn what people are saying about Home From College for building resumes and landing gigs. I’ll also share some of my own personal thoughts.

Home From College is a relatively new platform for young professionals, helping Gen Z job seekers new to the workforce build resumes and gain experience through gig listings.

Since the platform is still growing, there aren’t as many reviews available as we might have hoped for. Still, I wanted to give an honest take—sharing both what people are saying and some of my own thoughts as someone who has experience with multiple resume builders and works in the industry.

But I’ll admit, I may naturally compare H\FC to our own resume builder, Rezi. While H\FC emphasizes entry-level resumes and gig-based experience, Rezi provides step-by-step guidance to help job seekers write, format, and structure resumes that meet recruiter expectations and hiring software requirements.

However, my goal here is to provide a transparent look at Home From College to help give you a better understanding of the platform.

What Is Home From College?

Home From College (H\FC) is a career platform designed specifically for college students and recent graduates. It’s where you can:

  • Build a resume with their resume builder
  • Apply to gigs

H\FC is tailored for young professionals looking to build a customized resume and gain their first paid work experiences through professional gigs.

If you’ve just come out of college or are seeking your first career opportunity, H\FC helps bridge the gap between academics and the professional world, aiming to make it easier to launch your career.

The pros of using Home From College

  • H\FC is a solid way to land your first professional gig. If you’re a student or recent graduate looking for your first real, paid work experience, H\FC gives you access to gig opportunities that can help you take your first steps in the workforce.
  • Building your resume is straightforward. They have ready-to-use templates that you can get straight into customizing.
  • You can find all sorts of gigs on their listing across different industries, so it’s a chance to gain experience in areas related to your field of interest—or explore new ones.

The cons of using Home From College

  • The capabilities of building your resume on H\FC is quite limited. While it’s straightforward to customize your resume, it lacks guidance on ATS optimization, advanced formatting, and professional writing—which means you’re mostly on your own when it comes to making your resume stand out.
  • All resources are geared specifically for students and recent graduates, hence, it may not be the best platform for experienced job seekers.
  • Some gigs listed on the platform can be questionable, as users have previously reported concerns about their legitimacy.

Social Media Reviews and Opinions

There aren’t many reviews on social media, but I did come across this one—though it’s actually an ad.

Reddit Opinions

Not many reviews for Home From College show up on Reddit, however, I did come across this one thread, which questioned the credibility of some gigs listed on the platform.

Final Thoughts

My first impression of the platform was how straightforward everything felt.

Building a resume is easy—you just pick a template, customize it, and adjust the formatting as needed. You can rewrite resume sections and fill in your own details so that it reflects your professional background.

That said, I would have to say that the biggest drawback is the lack of guidance on resume content, formatting, and best practices.

Although customization is simple, it relies heavily on the user knowing how to write and format a resume. Plus, the resume templates aren’t particularly optimized for space efficiency, which could be an issue for some with a lot of projects, qualifications, or extracurriculars to talk about.

As for the paid gigs, it’s certainly an interesting way to build experience.

Landing your first opportunity without prior work experience is tough, especially with the job market nowadays. So, having a dedicated listing of gigs for students can be a great way to get your foot in the door in the workplace. However, as some users have pointed out on Reddit, the screening process could use some improvement to make sure all listed gigs are reliable.

Why College Students and Recent Graduates Choose Rezi

Home From College can be a good option for students and recent graduates looking for gig opportunities. It’s made to help Gen Z and those new to the workforce get their first paid experience.

As for H\FC’s resume builder, they offer quick and simple customization.

However, you may prefer a more structured approach—one that guides you step-by-step through each section. If that’s the case, Rezi might be the more preferred option, as they provide AI tools in their resume builder to make sure your content and format aligns with the best practices and meets applicant tracking system (ATS) requirements.

If you’re looking for a resume builder that goes beyond templates and actively helps you create tailored resumes in minimal time, you can try Rezi for free.
